Wilson attempted to take the ball on the full from a kick oy Talbot but a knock-on spoilt his chances and play eased to halfway. A strong kick by Todd placed Tasman in a favourable position. Following infringements by botn teams, Huia were penalised on a second occasion and Todct negotiated the uprights to raise the flag for Tasman. Tasman 3-16. Boyce and Knowles combined to take play upfield, but a forward pass nullified the effort and half-time was sounded with the scores unaltered. Huia 19-3. . , From a line out Tasman gained possession and Herd continued to the corner for Talbot to clear. Tasman kept up the pressure and following a force down, Huia counter-attacked and play shifted to the opposite end. Buswell picked up and dashed in to score a try under the posts. This he also converted. Huia 24-3. At this juncture Tasman perceptibly weakened, and a succession of scores were registered. In a passing movement Heath sent Boyce and Buswell away for the last-named to score. Talbot converted. Huia 29-3. In a scramble near the line Shaw picked up and dived over. Huia 32-3. Huia broke through again in a forward rush for Summers to touch down. Buswell added the major points. Huia 37-3. Just on the call of time Huia again penetrated Tasman’s defence and Boyce went over to score the final try. Heath converted. Huia 42-3. Mr C. James controlled the match. TIKAOKAO V. WANDERER The match between Tikaokao and Wanderer which was fast and keenly contested concluded in favour of Tikaokao by 20 points to 11. Fowler gaining possession dashed over to even the scores. Evans’ kick failed. Wanderer 3-3. After Wanderer had been penalised Morgan took play up field, but a counter movement by Tikaokao saw the ball returned to half-way. A fine run by N. Holyoake again placed Wanderer on the offensive. Almost on the call of time Watson from a forward scramble reached the line for a try, making the scores— Tikaokao 20, Wanderer 11. Mr H. Rangi refereed the match. JUNIOR MATCHES UNITED A V. UNITED B On Saturday the two United teams in the junior competition met, the B team being outplayed to the tune of 22 points to nil. This was mainly due to the fact that the B team played short and that two of the best men were partially incapacitated; but the A team showed better combination and far more judgment in their play. The scoring account was opened by

Lester on the wing. He scored well out after a passing rush. Lander failed to convert. United A 3-0. Bateman at centre was the next to score, but again the kick failed. United A 6-0. Almost immediately Goodger followed up well and scored, and Lander added the extra points. United A 11-0. After half-time United B held their own for a considerable time and looked at one period like crossing the line. G. Wise had one or two attempts to score from penalties but, though the kicks were good, he was unsuccessful. Play went to the other end of the field for Coppins to score under the posts. He converted his own try. United A 16-0. This was followed by Lander kicking a beautiful penalty. United A 19-0. Finally United A kicked across from one wing to the other, and B. Hunt dashed over for a try in the corner. The kick failed. United A 22-0. For the remainder of the spell play was in midfield. For United A Goodger in the forwards was outstanding, while Davey and York also played good games; in fact the whole pack played well. In the backs Lander was a tower of strength while Coppins, Dredge and Cording played well together and often beat the opponents. For United B, Bisley, Anderson and Wise were good in the backs. Smith at full-back was handicapped by a bad injury received a fortnight ago, but played gamely. Yuill, Wratt and Fell were the best of the forwards. Mr V. Fry was the referee. TAPAWERA V. TIKAOKAO The Tapawera juniors journeyed to Motueka on Saturday and were successful in defeating Tikaokao by 9 points to 6 after a good exhibition of football. Shortly after the kick off by Tikaokao, D. Griffith broke through in fine style to score for the visitors. The kick was unsuccessful. Tapawera 3-0. From a penalty kick ten yards inside half-way M. Cederman evened the scores. Tikaokao 3-3. Give and take play ensued, until Curnow secured in a scramble on the line and dived over. Tapawera 6-3. A few minutes later the same player received a pass from D. Griffith and dashed in to score near the posts. Tapawera 9-3. In the second spell honours were fairly even until Tikaokao were awarded a free-kick, which Cederman turned to account. Tikaokao 6-9. For the remainder of the spell Tapawera kept the local team penned in their own territory, but no further scores were registered and the game ended—Tapawera 9, Tikaokao 6. Mr A. W. Moverley controlled the game. THIRD GRADE HUIA V. HIGH SCHOOL In the third grade competition High School suffered their first defeat for the season, when they met Huia on Saturday, the scores being Huia 13, High School 0. Miller opened Huia’s account by scoring a try. A potted goal by Hawken was followed by Bisley scoring from a scramble near the corner. Marshall made a valiant effort to reach the line but was not supported and school lost a good chance. Towards the end of the spell Huia again attacked; Hawken kicked through and following up quickly regained possession to score a wellearned try. The game thus concluded in favour of Huia by 13 points to nil. Mr G. Fowler controlled the game. WOMEN’S HOCKEY RIWAKA V. MOTUEKA In the match Riwaka versus Motueka played at Motueka, the Riwaka team were too strong, running out easy winners by six goals to nil. Mrs Wilson, the Motueka goalie, had a strenuous afternoon, and saved her side many times, making some very good clearances. Mrs Sullivan and J. Mickell were the best of the Motueka backs. The local forwards could not penetrate the Riwaka backs, who all played a good game on defence and started their forwards off in many attacking movements. D. Fry and Marg. Sparks were outstanding in the Riwaka forwards, the former scoring four goals and the latter two. Messrs Drogemuller and Glover had charge of the game.
