TAHUNANUI
AMATEUR DRAMATIC SOCIETY A meeting was held at Tahunanui for the purpose of forming an Amateur Dramatic Society. Seven persons were present and apologies for absence were received from two. Mr G. Plake, President of the Progress League, who was present by invitation, was elected to the chair. Mr L. Brett, the convenor of the meeting, explained that he had only invited a few who were reasonably handy because the main factor was to get the Society formed. They could then get into touch with those who Were interested and could work in harmony with the members. The chairman stated that Tahunanui had a population of 800 persons and was certain to expand; consequently the formation of the Society was opportune. There was more talent in 1/: district than one might suspect, and its co-onerat'on would not be difficult if the Society steered clear cf trouble makers.
It was convenient for the Society to have the experience of Mr Brett and Mr Aitkinson and likewise the capacity to paint its own scenery. The objects of the Society were to assist such institutions as the Progress League; Boy Scouts; School Committee, etc. It should he appreciated by the residents and provide profitable pastime for the members. The League was desirous of seeing all worthwhile institutions exist and the thanks of the League were due to the Society. The material present was a good start, but the hall facilities would be a handicap. Officers elected were: President, Mr G. Blake; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Meachen; directors, Messrs L. Brett and G. Aitkinson. Executive committee, Messrs J. Meachen, R. Simpson, L. Brett, G. Aitkinson, S. Blake, and F. Blake.
It was decided to make an annual subscription of 2s 6d.
