DAVIS CUP TEAM

AUSTRALIANS IN FORM SERIES OF EXHIBITION MATCHES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MOORESTOWN (N.J.), 23rd May. The Australian Davis Cup players journeyed here to-day for a series of exhibition matches at the Moorestown Field Club, and displayed a high-grade type of tennis, which impressed 1200 spectators, including several members of the American Davis Cup committee. Crawford and Quist divided two sets, 6-2, 6-3, respectively; Sproule and McGrath divided two sets, 6-2 each. In the doubles, Crawford and Quist defeated McGrath and Sproule, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2.

American tennis experts who were present particularly noted the quality of Quist’s play both in the singles and in the doubles. Some express the; opinion that he and Crawford will! play in the doubles as well as the' singles, although Sproule (manager of the team) gave no intimation regarding the assignment of the players. The Australians were entertained at lunch on the estate of Dr. and Mrs S. E. Stokes, where Sproule was happily surprised with a birthday cake. FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS REACHED PARIS, 24th May. Results in the French tennis championships include:— Women’s Doubles.—Final: Miss Ye.rke and Madame Mathieu defeated Misses Nel and Jedrzejowski, 2-G, G-4. 6-4. Men's Doubles.—Semi-finals: Hughes and Tuckey defeated Perry and Austin, 6-0, 5-7, G-4, 6-4; Borotra and Bernard defeated Brugnon and Boussus, 7-5, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3.
