LABOUR LAWS
MORE INSPECTORS TO BE APPOINTED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, 25th May. Hundreds of applications have been received for the positions of inspectors of factories, scaffolding inspectors, and shearers’ accommodation inspectors, which are to be filled shortly with the object of securing a more rigid observance of the labour laws. About a dozen new inspectors are to be appointed, and the final choice will rest with the Public Service Commissioner. Another appointment that will be made shortly will be that of an additional Conciliation Commissioner. At present there are two Commissioners Mr P. Hally, for the North Island, and Mr S. Ritchie, for the South Island, but for some months Mr Hally has been prevented from carrying out his duties owing to illness.
