ASSOCIATED MOTORISTS

ELECTION OF DIRECTORS RESULT OF POLL (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The result of Tuesdays’ poll for the election of two directors to represent preference shareholders on the directorate of Associated Motorists Petrol Company was declared to-day by the chairman Mr Todd, in the presence of a small attendance. Messrs W. A. O'Callaghan and F. W. Johnston were re-elected. The votes were: O’Callaghan, 57,834; Johnston 57,719. Mr James Mclntosh polled 40,492, and Mr W. M. King 40,397. Mr Todd said that if all the questioned votes and proxies in favour of the elected candidates were rejected, and all questioned votes in favour of the other candidates were allowed, the voting would still stand in favour of Messrs O’Callaghan and Johnston. Mr Todd congratulated them on what he called their “victory.” It had been a hard fight, and things had been said which in cooler moments might not been said. After a fight came peace, and it is was to be hoped that peace would be conducive to the best interests of the company. After congratulating Messrs O’Callaghan and Johnston on their election, Mr Mclntosh intimated that the committee set up by preference shareholders last week was going to continue in being. Whether the committee would require to have some different standing by way of representation had not yet been decided, but if that was thought necessary appropriate steps would be taken so that the committee would have official standing in any negotiations with the company. So far as he was aware, he said, whatever action had been taken had not been done without recognising the valuable work the company had done for the motoring public, and no desire had ever been evinced that would be destructive of the success of the company. He would be very sorry indeed to see the company suffer as the result of whatever action might have been taken.
