NELSON DISTRICT FEDERATION
At a meeting of the executive committee of the Nelson Federation o Women's Institutes held after the annual meeting. Mrs F. Newman presided and the following officers were elected : —Airs Thurlow, Longford, and Mrs Tweedy, Motucka. vice-presidents; Mrs \\. Smith, I lope-Ranzau, circulating librarian ; Mrs Goodman, Richmond, press correspondent ; Mrs L. Hutchings, Murchison, handicrafts sections; Airs Chaylor, Wakefield, Crippled Children's Society representative; Airs F. Joyce, Owen, secretary and treasurer (co-opetecl); Airs Waghoru, Wakefield, Dramatic Festival, secretary; Airs Brownlie, Taliunanui, hospitality scheme secretary; voluntary organisers, Airs Taylor, Poluira, ALrs Chaytor, Wakefield, Mrs Thurlow, Longford, Airs Newman, Owen ; Mrs W. Watson, group convenor, Murchison group. THE OWEN BRANCH PRESENTATIONS TO MEMBERS The monthly meeting of the Owen Women’s Institute was held in the Owen Hall, Airs F. Newman presiding over a very good attendance of members and friends. It was decided to send a delegate to the Dunedin conference, and as the president declined nomination, Mrs F. Joyce was elected to go. It was decided to nominate Airs F. Newman for the Dominion executive committee. Airs D. Will read her delegate's report to the annual meeting in Murchison, members thanking her for her very interesting report. N Mrs l?nit offered congratulation to Airs F. Newman on being elected to the posi-' tion of federation president. The roll call was: “What I would like to be,” or “Aly most embarassiug moment ” ilie competition was “Something made from the W.I. cookery book,” Airs Gilroy securing first prize. An amusing balloon balancing game was won by Alls R. Scott, and Airs itait won the congratulatory telegram made from the bride-elect’s name. Alter a delicious afternoon tea was served Aliss Joyce Newman sang very sweetly a song “In tiie Garden, of To-morrow,” and the “Maori Farewell” as a duet with Airs Newman, these items being very much appreciated. Mrs Drummond, vice-president, then presented Aliss Joyce Newman with a gift from the Institute, also a large table full of gifts from all the members, wishing her all joy and happiness on her approaching marriage. Miss Newman in a neat little speech thauked the members ior all their kindness and expressed a wish that they would visit- her later in new home at Lepperton, New Plymouth. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought to a close one of the happiest meetings of the year.
