POINT CHEVALIER AFFAIR

<r>ACCUSED BEFORE COURT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, 21st May. Janies Billings, aged 39, bushman, who was arrested in the Point Chevalier branch of the Auckland Savings Bank on 14th May, appeared in the Police Court before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M, charged that with intent to facilitate the commission of the crime of theft he violently attempted to render James Godfrey Worboys incapable of resistance. The police applied for a remand to 28th May. Mr Sullivan, for the accused, requested bail. “This man has never been in Court before, and at the time was under the influence of liquor,” said counsel. “I am not speaking of the commission of any alleged offence.” The police did not oppose reasonable bail, and this was fixed at £2OO and two sureties each of £IOO.
