OBITUARY
MR W. J. SWANN (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) APIA, 20th May. The death occurred to May of Mr W. J. Swann, chemist, one of the oldest residents of Apia, aged 78. MR HARRY WHITNEY MONTREAL, 20tli May. The death has occurred of Mr Harry Whitney, the American sportsman and big game hunter. Mr Harry Whitney was born in 1873. In 1903 lie went to Australia in a sailing ship and engaged in sheep farming and mining there for two years. On his return to America he became interested in ranching in Montana and Arizona. He was well known as a big game hunter in various parts of the world. He went north with Commodore Peary in 1908 and remained for a year in Arctic regions shooting musk, oxen and other game. COMMISSIONER BRENGLE SCARSDALE (New York), 20th May. The death has occurred of Commissioner Samuel Logan Brengle, an international leader of the Salvation Army. < The late Commissioner Brengle’s death brings to an end a notable Salvation Army career. Commissioner Brengle was one of the Army’s holiness teachers and travelled widely throughout the world in the course of evangelical missions. He was what is known in the Army as a “spiritual special,” and in addition to his platform work in many countries he was a prolific and versatile writer on Salvation Army and general religious topics. He visited New Zealand some years ago.
