BOWLING

THEI NELSON CLUB GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS A meeting of the general committee of the Nelson Bowling Club was held last evening, when Mr G. Manson presided.. The president referred with regret to the illness of Mr B. A. Tomlinson, a member of the committee, also to the fact that the secretary was again able to attend the meetings, and that Mr E. G. Wilson, who had been ill for a considerable time, was much improved in health. He regretted the bereavement to Mr J. N. Stephenson by the death of his father.

The secretary reported that the Opawa Bowling Club had asked for information concerning the treatment on bowling greens for “fairy ring.” This information had been kindly supplied by Dr. Curtis, of the Cawthron Institute, and the Opawa Club had expressed its thanks for the help given.

A statement of accounts in connection with the Easter tournament was submitted. It was stated that the tournament was one of the most successful held, and visiting bowlers were specially pleased. The committee expressed its satisfaction with the success of the tournament from a financial, management and playing point of view, and passed votes of thanks to those who had helped. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mrs W. J. S. Smith and the ladies who attended to the teas.

The green supervisor reported on the extreme danger to the greens and the Club’s property by the overflow of storm water from Examiner street. It was resolved to ask the City Council if anything could be done to divert the overflow when heavy rain occurs.

A finance committee was appointed to consider important matters in connection with the Club and to make a recommendation in time for the June meeting. The green supervisor reported that the greens were looking remarkably well, particularly the lower one, which had received attention immediately after Easter. He reported that it was proposed to turf several portions of the top green as seeding did not seem to be lasting. Turfing was to be tried in preference.

Mr Carter was thanked ‘ for his report.
