MINISTER’S TRIP TO ENGLAND
CLOSE DIVISION IN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT SUPPORTERS CROSS FLOOR OF HOUSE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 21st May, 12.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. In the Legislative Assembly nine Government supporters crossed the floor of tlie House to vote against sending the Minister of Education (the Hon. D. = H. Drummond) to England for the Educationists’ Conference. Tlie vote was on a motion by the ex-Minister of Health (the Hon. R. W. D. Weaver, P.A.) that the contemplated trip was as “unwarranted expenditure of public money.” _ .. Mr Weaver said tlie main subject of. the conference was “education and a free society—a discussion on the foundation of freedom in a free country.” He asked whether it was necessary for a member of the Government to travel 13,000 miles to discuss that. Mr Weaver’s motion was defeated by 41 votes to 38.
