In the Legislative Assembly nine Government supporters crossed the floor of tlie House to vote against sending the Minister of Education (the Hon. D. = H. Drummond) to England for the Educationists’ Conference. Tlie vote was on a motion by the ex-Minister of Health (the Hon. R. W. D. Weaver, P.A.) that the contemplated trip was as “unwarranted expenditure of public money.” _ .. Mr Weaver said tlie main subject of. the conference was “education and a free society—a discussion on the foundation of freedom in a free country.” He asked whether it was necessary for a member of the Government to travel 13,000 miles to discuss that. Mr Weaver’s motion was defeated by 41 votes to 38.
