ally swallowed a quantity of caustic soda, which caused severe burns to the throat. In the following 22 years the scar grew gradually until it almost blocked the gullet While the man was eating breakfast yesterday, a piece of meat became fixed in his throat. Ht! was taken to hospital, and, after Nray photographs had been taken, an operation was performed by a leading specialist. The obstruction was removed by stretching the throat with probes, but the man will probably have to have his throat stretched at intervals for the remainder of his life.
