VICTORY SQUARE
THE CITY COUNCIL’S CHARGE FOR USE APPOINTMENT OF SOCCER GROUNDSMAN DEFERRED The question of appointing a groundsman for the football area at Victory Square was discussed by the annual meeting of the Nelson Football Association last evening. ’'lt was finally resolved that the matter be left over pending further information from the Council as to the new minimum charge of £4 per season for the ground.
A member asked whether the Association having paid the charge would be entitled to prevent the College boys from playing Rugby at the Square during the week, and “ruining the marking of the ground.” During last season, it was stated, 164 bags of sawdust had been used to mark out the ground at a cost of £4 2s, which amount was for labour only, the sawdust being free.
