MURDER OF A VICAR
ACCUSED MAN GIVES EVIDENCE DID NOT INTEND TO KILL (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyrieht) MELBOURNE, 25th March. Giving evidence in his own defence on i a charge of having murdered the Rev. Harold Laceby Cecil at St. Saviour’s vicarage, Fitzroy, on 12th December, Edward Cornelius admitted that he went to the vicarage to steal money. He had a spanner with him. The vicaV surprised him in the study and grappled with him. He hit the vicar once with the spanner and the vicar attacked him. Accused said he lost control of himself and did not remember what followed. He denied having intentionally injured the vicar. Tlie case is unfinished.
