The' Australians began a match against Griqualand West. The local batsmen made a poor showing and were unable to overcome O’Reilly’s leg trap. Helfrich, an 18 years old youth, played soundly. He batted for 107 minutes and hit ten boundaries. The Australian batting order was rearranged to give some players who are usually low down an opportunity. O’Brien and Oldfield were scoring freely at stumps. The Nawab of Molnuddowla’s eleven defeated Mr F. Tarrant’s Australian team by an innings and 115 runs. The home.team made 413 for five (declared) and Australia 144 and 154 (Amar Singh five for 34). This is the first innings victory over a visiting team.

Mr Tarrant’s team will sail for Australia from Bombay on 13th February.
