MEETING AT RANDWICK GAY BLONDE JUST BEATEN (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 29th January. The A.J.C. anniversary meeting opened at Bandwick in dulu weather. A feature of the Challenge Stakes was the whirlwind finish of Gay Blonde, who was heavily supported. She was last early but, finishing valiantly, failed only by half a head to overhaul the lightweight, Heritor. Viceroy’s performance in the January Handicap was creditable. He engaged in a desperate struggle in the lead will Windbird, over whom he had just secured the upper hand when Mister Kerry,' coming with a late run, snatched victory by a neck. Results:—

Challenge Stakes, of six furlongs.— Heritor, 6.7 (Curby), 1; Gay Blonde, 8.11 (Munro), G; Porcia, 7.7 (O’Sullivan), 3. Scratched: Veilantif. Half a head, three-quarters of a length. Time, 1.12/. January Handicap, of one mile and a quarter.—Mister Kerry, 8.12 (Pratt), 1; Viceroy, 6.11 (Duncan), 2; Windbird, 8.4 (Munro), 3. Scratched: Lancaster King. Won by a neck, half a length. Loud Applause was fourth. Time, 2.6. Eginont, Limoux and Pasha were unplaced in the Paddington Handicap.
