At the National Games swimming carnival the 100 yards backstroke championship was won by P. Oliver (Western Australia). His time was lmin 4jjsecs, an Australian record. The 440 yards free style championship was won liy A. Crawford (Victoria) in 4mins 14 4-ssecs. Noel Ryan surprisingly finished out of a place. The 100 yards women’s free style championship was won by Pat Norton (New South Wales), in lmin 4secs. The 220 yards women’s breaststroke championship was won by Clare Dennis (New South Wales) in 3min 17secs.
