NEW TOG’S ROUGH VOYAGE
ENGLAND TO AUCKLAND
[By Telegraph—Press Association]
AUCKLAND, 30tu January. After a rough- voyage from Newcas-tle-on-Tyne, the Auckland Harbour Board’s new tug William C. Daldy arrived this morning. She left England on 7th November.
“Except for the run between Batavia and Port Bowen we never had more than 48 hours fair winds,” said the master, Captain J. S. Corfe, who was formerly with the Blue Funnel Line service between Liverpool and the Orient. “We had to face strong head winds and heavy seas all the time. The rough trip so affected one fireman that he had a nervous breakdown and was sent to hospital at Port- Bowen. He was a journalist.” Captain Corfe added smilingly. He said that the tug is a wonderful boat for the job she has to do. It is costing the board £40,000 in New Zealand currency.
