AUSTRALIAN SEAMENS’ STRIKE

TERMS OF SETTLEMENT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) . MELBOURNE, 29th January. Seamen here are disinclined to accept the terms of the proposed settlement of the shipping strike adopted by shipowners and strike leaders yesterday, but will await tlie decision of tlie Sydney seamen’s meeting to-morrow. Tlie terms are that the men should offer for work under tlie new award, and also apply for licenses under the Transport Workers’ Act on all vessels not at present in commission, such vessels to be manned exclusively by unionists, and that members of the Seamen’s Union agree to fill all vacancies as they occur. Shipowners agreed to engage no more volunteers after tlie union passed a resolution authorising members to resume work. Shipowners have assured volunteers at present working that they will not be displaced.
