SANDERS CUP

FIRST RACE TO CANTERBURY (By Telegraph—Frt*o Association) AUCKLAND, 28th January. The first race for the Sanders Memorial Cup, decided on the Waitemata ; tliis afternoon, was won by the Canterbury boat, Avenger, by 53 seconds from Lavina (Wellington), with which she had been engaged in a close duel throughout the afternoon. Irene, last year’s winner of the cup for Canterbury, which in this contest represents Southland, was third, Yal (Otago) fourth. Aileen (Auckland) fouled the first mark when rounding it in close company with Avenger and Lavina and retired immediately.
