WYATT EARP TRACTOR PARTY

A NARROW ESCAPE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 27 th January. A tractor party which set out to recover Mr Lincoln Ellsworth's aeroplane, the Polar Star, had scarcely started its trek to the plane when disaster almost overtook them. Finding their own tractor unsuitable they used one left by Rear-Admiral Byrd. While passing near his camp the tractor suddenly fell into a crevasse. Fortunately, the machine jammed between jdie two sides, and the men were able to scramble to safety. If it had fallen the full 35 feet to the bottom, all would probably have been drowned. The men will return to the Wyatt Earp. It is now planned to fly the Texaco Twenty to take petrol to the Polar Star.
