REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE

FOR FOUR-WEEKLY PERIOD

WELLINGTON', 27th January. The General Manager of Railways (Mr G. H. Mnckley) announced to-day on behalf of the Government Railways Board the financial results of railway working for the four-weekly period which ended on 41 h January. The gross revenue was £598,203, an increase of £33,135 as compared with the corresponding period of last year. The expenditure for the period was £429,866. nil increase of £26,395 over last year. (These figures include the increased expenditure involved in the 7g per cent, increase in salaries and wages.) For ihc ton four-weekly periods of the current financial year to sth January the total revenue amounted to £5,027,626 as against ,£4,775,908 for the same period of last year, making an increase of £251.718 in the revenue account.

The working expenses for the financial year to date amounted to £4,427,906 compared with £4,205,152, an increase of £222,754 after absorbing the expenditure due to the increase in salaries and wages. The net revenue to date, as compared with last year, shows an increase of £28,964.
