BOY RESCUED
PROMPT ACTION BY MOTORIST (By Telegraph— Press Association) AUCKLAND, 27tli January. A motorist , Mr Jack Diamond, of St. Ileliers, entered the water fully clothed at Kohimarania tin’s morning and rescued a boy who was in difficulties.
Jack Hewitt, aged 12, had been swimming alone. 'The wind carried a waterball out to sea and he swam after it and became exhausted. 11 is plight was seri ous before it was noticed.
Attracted by a small group of people pointing excitedly, Mr Diamond, who was driving in the direction of the city, saw the boy’s hands above the water thirty yards out. lie said that when rescued the lad was “just about done.' Mr Diamond was hampered considerably in his rescue work by the weight of his soaked clothing. The boy was taken t a nearby house, and later returned home.
