SOUTH MAIN TRUNK

INSPECTION BY MINISTERS (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, 9th January. Mr Semple (Minister for Public Works) and Mr Webb (Minister for Mines), in company with departmental advisers, will leave on Friday night for Nelson, to start a fortnight’s tour of the northern portion of the South Island. During the visit they will inspect the mining areas of the West Coast and various; railway lines, including the unfinished South Island Main Trunk. Linder the present itinerary, they are scheduled to reach Westport on 13th January, and Greymouth on the 15th, whence they go to south Westland to view roads and so on. They will reach Christchurch on 23rd January and will leave the same day for Kaikoura, inspecting the mam trunk construction en route. The party will continue to Blenheim and Picton and are expected to arrive back in Wellington on 25th January.
