YOUTHS FINED '■ i The offence of three youths from 88 Valley, who used telephone insulators as targets for rifle practice was regarded seriously in the ; 'Magistrate’s Court today. Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., was on the bench. Neil Dalkie was charged with delivering a .22 calibre rifle to Rover Delaney, who was not the possessor of a license. For this offence, which Senior-Sergeant C. Petersen did not regard as serious, Dalkie was ordered to pay costs. Rover Delaney, for securing possession of the rifle without a license, was ordered to pay costs. Delaney was also charged with later misconduct in destroying two telephone insulators by_ shooting at them. “This habit is costing the Department thousands a year,” remarked the Senior-Sergeant. The Magistrate observed that lie had seen reference to it in the newspapers. It was most difficult to suppress. The accused was ordered to pay 10s fine, 12s costs, and 4s 6d damages.’ Albert John Hawthorne, charged with a similar offence, was fined 10s, with 12s costs, and 4s 6d damages. Clifford L. Schwass also pleaded guilty to destroying an insulator, for which he was fined 10s, and, 12s costs and 2s 3d damages.
