At Wimbledon in the Davis' Cup inter-zone final Budge (U»S.A.) defeated Henkel (Germany) 7-5, 11-9, 6-8, 0-1. It was rather a tame encounter, Henkel playing a defensive game throughout. Budge made many errors through impatience. Rain caused the postponement of the von Gramm v. Allison match. CRAWFORD DEFEATS AUSTIN PERRY-McGBATH MATCH ABANDONED LONDON, 21st July. In a practice match for the Davis Cup at Eastbourne Crawford defeated Austin, 0-2, 0-4, 3-0, 0-3. Perry versus McGrath, 2-0, 6-2, 3-1, abandoned on account of rain. Full of confidence after defeating Perry, Crawtord drove deeply and powerfully, served well, volleyed more often than usual, and altogether overshadowed the Englishman's stylish but less virile game. Perry and McGrath fought at a gieat pace. McGrath in the first set hammered backhand drives straight dou n the line with remarkable accuracy, but Perry with intensifying boisterous belligerence overwhelmingly won the second. MALFROY BEATS NISHIMURA LONDON, 20th July. In the Frinton tennis tournament final Malfroy (N.Z.) defeated Nisliimura (Japan) 0-2. S-G.
