SCHOOL ENTRANCE AGE

ADMISSION OF FIVE-YEAR-OLDS FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS BY NELSON EDUCATION BOARD The Nelson Education Board to-day decided to renew representations to the Minister of Education regarding the readmission of five year olds to public schools. Mr F. V. Knapp said some further representations should be made. School rolls were decreasing and the longer it was put off the worse would be the position. Children were being driven into the kinder-gart.en schools and it- was far better that the children should commence their-school foundation at the age of five. The secretary stated that the town school attendances were being affected to some extent by the removal of many city people to. the country districts as was indicated by the increased rolls at Wangamoa, Wangapeka, Takaka and Motueka. Mr J. H. Har""' wr: said be was not taking into consideration so much the reduced rolls; in his opinion the children were better off at school when they had reached the age of five. He moved that further representations he made to the Minister. The motion was seconded by Mr Knapp and carried.
