PRICES AT SYDNEY DECLINE ON OPENING RATES LAST SEASON ■ (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Raceivcd 4th September 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The wool selling season opened in Svdnov yesterday to crowded galleries. The market was full equal (o Brisbaneclosing rates, but compared with the opening rates o: last season in Sydney best grown wools sl owed a fall of 20 per cent., whilst in the case of average to inferior description the decline ranged from 20 to 25 per cent. The highest price during the day for greasy Merino fleece was 17d for five bales from Mandurama. There was good competition, mainly from Japan and Yorkshire, with strong support from local mills and moderate demand from the Continent.
Offerings totalled 8965 bales, of which 6670 were sold ; also 2570 privately.
