SHIPPING DELAYED
SLOOP HAS ROUGH TIME MARAMA TWO DAYS’ LATE (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND. This Day. The sloop Laburnum returned to Auckland to-day from a Pacific cruise. She ran into heavy weather on Sunday evening and the seas continued rough till the Hauraki Gulf was reached. Big seas crashed over the ship and at one stage last evening officers found themselves in six inches of water in the wardroom. . _ The storm was at its height about l.ol) this morning, and the ship’s doctor was thrown .out of his bunk by a violent lurch of the ship. The passenger steamer Marama is now expected to arrive from Sydney on Thursday morning, two days behind schedule. Early this morning the steamer, which had been hove-to, reported that the weather was improving and she was under way again. At mid-day she radioed she expected to arrive at 9 on Thursday morning. She has 131 passengers. The Narbada from Calcutta, was also delayed by the storm and expects to arrive on Friday afternoon.
