WOMEN'S HOCKEY
REWA V. KIA ORA The curtain was rung down so far as tlio women’s championship is concerned, when R<ewa met Kia Ora at Richmond on Saturday in Uie final match of tho season, ftfewa proved victorious by 6 goafs to 3. As was anticipated the play proved !o he strenuous although ragged at times, this being to some extent due to the rough nature of tho playing area; accurate passing and snappy stick work being out of the question. In the first spell Rewa hemmed their opponents in their own 25 for practically the whole period with the exception of an occasional sally up field by Kia Ora which usually broke down before reaching the ' Rewa" circle. Kia Ora were to some extent handicapped owing to Rewa playing one short in the back line, thus causing a good deal of offside play. At half time five goals had been scored by Rewa (L. Howard 4 and 11. Page 1), and Kia Ora had failed to open their account.
In the second spell Rewa players appeared to tire more muchly than their opponents, who were playing much better than previously and scored three goals in quick succession (L. Coleman, J. Hill, and M. McFarlane one each). Rewa made several excursions into Kia Ora territory and on one occasion L. Howard notched her fifth goal, for the day.
