YOUTHFUL FARMERS
AWARD OF CHAMPION CUP WON BY OTAGO GIRL (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. For the second time in fourteen years since the annual competition for the W. Stuart Wilson Cup was inaugurated, the award has been won by a girl. The cup is competed for annually among boys’ and girls’ agricultural clubs throughout New Zealand and the winner is the boy or girl adjudged to be the champion farmer. It has been announced by the Department of Agriculture that 'this year’s champion farmer is Miss E. Scott of Romahapa school, Otago, who grew a crop of turnips yielding 88 tons 8 cwt. to the. acre. Special mention was made of the performance of of Graham Caldwell, .aged 12 years, of Warea north Taranaki, who grew in poor soil a crop of carrots yielding 681- tons to the acre.
