PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS BY SIR JAQUES JEANS (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Ropy right; LONDON, 30th August. The Presidential address at the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, which will be held at Aberdeen from sth to 12th September, will bo delivered by Sir Jacques Jeans on “The New World Picture of Physics.” As usual at these meetings, speakers are addressing themselves to many practical questions, such as nutrition in relation to disease, the problem of noise, and questions affecting the rearing and feeding of cattle. Scores of other subjects by eminent scientists in many fields, vary from discussions on ascorbic acid, which is the vitamin that prevents scurvy, to a popular account of the interpretation of the spectra of the stars.

Follow of Institute of Physics; I'.R.S.; was born in September, 1877. and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 18C4 lie became University Lecturer in Mathematics; from 1905 9 was Professor of Applied Mathematics in Princeton University, and from 1910-12 Stokes Lecturer in Applied Mathematics in the University of Cambridge. lie was secretary of the Royal Society from 1919 to 1929, and since 1922 has been Research Associate at Jit. Wilson Observatory.
