TAHUNANDI

(To the Editor) Sir,—As the election for the members of this Board is due this year, a few remarks through your columns will be quite in order. In common with other residents of this district, I am at a loss -to see what has been done by the sitting members. There has not been any work in any part of the district carried out to a finish. With the unemployed labour at the command of the Board we should have had a model suburb, but instead the roads and footpaths are a disgrace. No levels have been taken when the footpaths have been formed, with the result that the workmen have followed the bumps and hollows, making the drainage impossible. Take Muratai street as an example. The drain that was is there in some places and filled up in others. Metal is spread on the roads willy nilly and is practically a waste. The amount of relief labour engaged could have been utilised as in other places to advantage. Another eyesore is the watertable on the Rocks road. This was a failure from the beginning. There are relief workers in the district who are capable men to undertake the office work and carry out all the necessary engineeringsupervision for any improvement scheme. I admit the Moana section has had a better deal than the remaining portion. t> Ue rßS P. ec t to the members of the Board, there is certainly a need for new blood that will utilise the free labour to advantage. Trusting some abler pen will write on this matter.— I am, etc.,
