ATTITUDE OF JAPAN • SEMI-OFFICIAL STATEMENT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 21st April. The Government has received from the British Embassy at Tokio the text of the Japanese semi-official statement in reference to the Powers and China and Britain. The ’ Government proposes no action unless it receives a direct official notification. COMMENT BY “DAILY MAIL” LONDON, 21st April. The “Daily Mail” says that Great Britain’s special position in Australia and New Zealand has always been recognised, and also that of the United States on the American Continent. It is difficult to see then why Japan’s preponderance of interest in China should he disputed. Certainly no sane Government is going to attempt to turn her out of Miinehukuo.

BITTER COMMENT BY NANKING GOVERNMENT JAPANESE MILITARY ACTION SHANGHAI, 21st April. The Nanking Government is perturbed over the continued Japanese military activity in North China. Japan’s hands off China declaration is arousing hitter comments at Nanking, where it is regarded as striking a fatal blow at the interests of other Powers in the Far East.
