FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY YESTERDAY In connection with Fire Prevention Week, the Nelson Fire Brigade yesterday afternoon gave a display at the intersection of Trafalgar and Hardy streets. The alarm was given from Trafalgar street soon after 5 p.m. and the time was taken for the arrival of two engines, and for the time it took to run out seven leads and have the water working. Tile brigadesmen gave an impressive display and many favourable comments were heard on the efficient manner ii* which the practice was done under Superintendent A. Bennett. From the alarm until the arrival of the brigade on the scene in the centre of the town was on!” 45 seconds. The first water was working lmin 23secs after the alarm and seven leads were all working lmin 40secs after the alarm. There was a good pressure of water from the mains and with the engine pump working the jets of water reached over 80 feet.

There were over 1000 people to witness the display and keen interest was taken in the effort.
