DAMAGED SURF LINE
RELIEF WORKER. CONVICTED (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. T. Egan, aged 25 '’cars, married, a relief worker, was convicted and ordered to come up. for sentence and pay damages, by the Magistrate, Mr Mosle- this morning on a charge laid by the North Beach Life Saving Club that on Ist September 1933 lie wilfully damaged a surf line valued at £2 10s. the property of the, club. Mr Mosley said : “I cannot understand the mentality of aman who would do an act of this sort that might easily cause.the death of several persons. Such a crime can be traced only to selfishness and thoughtlessness.” He would have imposed the maximum penalty but for counsel’s plea for leniency.
