RED-NOSED COMEDIAN
. VARIETY TO CALM NERVES LONDON, stli April. In order to dispel Wembley “stage fright” before the Association Cup final, on 28th April, between Portsmouth and Manchester City, the directors of the former club are arranging an all-star variety concert in the dressing room during the three-quarters of an hour between the players’ arrival and the kick-off, the strain of which has ruined many teams. Jack Tinn, the manager, says he will probably have a red-nose comedian and jazz singers. The players must be made to laugh in order to prevent a repetition of Portsmouth’s former appearance at Wembley, when the players sat dressed for nearly an hour and “went out beaten before they started.”
