In tile Magistrate’s Court to day before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., cases were dealt with as follows: —. Cyril Lloyd, charged with being found on licensed premises alter hours, was convicted and fined 10s, costs 10s. Maurice Jamieson, who pleaded guilty to a breach of his prohibition order, was fined ss, without costs. Brian Cross, who was represented by Mr J. It. Kerr, and who pleaded not guilty, was charged that at Richmond on 10th March he used obscene language in a public place. Cross elected to he dealt with summarily. Constable O’Neill, stationed at Richmond. stated that at midnight on 10th March he was passed by a group of men on Salisbury road corner, and be alleged that Cross used the words with which lie. was charged. Mr Kerr slated that his defence was a complete denial that Cross used the language referred it, and submitted that it was a case of mistaken identity. He called two witnesses, Norman Strawbridge and Keith Sutton, who were walking with defendant, who stated that they did not hear Cross use the had language. The information was dismissed.

Robert Alwyn Coleman pleaded guilty to negligently driving a car in Waimea street as a consequence of which a collision occurred when defendant cut across the corner into Bridge-st. A fine of 30s, costs 12s, was imposed. Tiie following by-law eases were dealt with, defendants either pleading guilty or not appearing : For driving a motor car in Hardy street at night without lights, and also for not having a license, Reginald Thomas Winstanley was fined ss, costs 10s, on each charge. Casper W. Devanny, for riding a bicycle negligently, was fined ss, costs 10s. Donald Gillespie Thomason, for riding a motor cycle with no silencer attached, was fined £l, costs 10s. Frank De Feu, for riding a cycle in ITaven road without a lamp, was fined 10s, costs 10s. Innes MeCallum, for riding a cycle without lights, was .fined ss, costs 10s. Willis Leaning, for a similar offence, was fined ss. no costs; William Emms, riding a cycle without a- light. 10s, costs 10s ; James L. Pieterson, riding a motor cycle without a tail-light, fined ss, costs 10s ; Norman McKenzie, riding a cycle without a light, 10s, costs 10s; Robert McKenzie, riding a motor cycle with no tail light, ss, costs 10s; J. E. Me- - Conachy, for exceeding the speed limit through Richmond, 30s, costs 10s. Leslie McConachy, who was represented by Mr Kerr and who pleaded guilty, was fined £l, costs 10s. on each of two charges: (1) That ho affixed to a car a number not bein''- the appropriate assigned number, which was likely to be mistaken for an assigned number. (2) That he used a car in Trafalgar Square when a license which was then remaining in force had not been issued. The, above informations were laid by Mr C. E. Parkinson/ City Traffic Inspector, and Mr J. T. Brough, Waimea County Traffic Inspector. On the information of Mr J. T. Brough the following convictions were recorded, there being no appearance of defendants:—

Neil Shea, for driving a vehicle on the Hope Saddle without a tail light, was fined 10s, costs 10s. Mr Brough said that such offences were now being regarded in a serious light in the Buller, and complaints had been received. Stanley R. Wvlde (of Greymouth) was charged with (lj he did operate a heavy motor vehicle on the Hope Saddle and failed to display the figures stating the unladen weight of the vehicle. (2) He did operate a vehicle on the KorereGlenbope road without a heavy traffic license. (3) Did operate a heavy motor vehicle with no indication disc attached. A fine of £l, costs 10s, was imposed in each case.

George Hawkins (Westport) was fined as follows: — (1) For having no vision mirror on his lorry, 10s, costs 10s. (2) Operated a vehicle without a heavy traffic license, £2, costs 10s
