MILK IN SCHOOLS
SUPPLIES FOR, CHILDREN SCHEME AT AUCKLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, 11th April. “Although we are in full sympathy with any movement to give milk to schoolchildren at a reasonable price throughout the year, it is really a matter for the individual school, committees to deal with,” said the chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr T. U. Wells, at a meeting of the board, when a deputation from the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council sought the Boards opinion regarding milk for schoolchildren. The chairman of the distribution committee of tile council, Mr 1. <l. Goldstinc; said that the purpose of the deputation was formally to Introduce the question to the school authorities and to obtain the hoard's direction for the best manner of going about the scheme. “The council lias an idea of introducing milk into the schools as a beverage on its own,” said Mr Goldstino. “No definite plan lias yet been formulated but it is believed that it will he possible to provide milk from surplus supplies at such a low price that the authorities concerned will adopt the scheme.” “We all realise the value of milk lor children,'’ said Mr Wells, when the board passed a motion approving of tlm council’s efforts. Mr Goldstine said the matter would next be placed before the school committees and Ihe Auckland Headmasters’ Association.
