LABOUR TROUBLES
U.S. AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY
STRIKE NEGOTIATIONS FAIL
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright)
DETROIT, Bth April
The Labour controversy in the automobile industry again faced a crisis to-day as 'efforts for the negotiation of a strike in shops producing essential parts failed, while American Federation of Labour officials bitterly denounced the settlement which President Roosevelt negotiated. If the supply of parts fails, large manufacturers will probably be forced to slow down, and perhaps halt production. Furthermore, there is again talk of calling a. general automobile strike. Labour leaders allege that the board created by the President is not moving fast enough in fulfilling their demands, and point out that unless full union recognition conics soon, production peak will have passed, with little chance of a strike then being effective.
