NELSON UNION

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

MEETING

The weekly meeting of the Nelson Rugby Union Management Committee was held in Cole's moms last evening when there were present Messrs K. <l. Eyre (president). E. Brownlie (vicepresident), I. Wyber (Referees), D. Bowler (Waimea), R. Breeman (Pirates), \\ v . Alexander (Old Bovs). 4'. Austin (Rivals), W. Shain (Nelson), R. If. Methven (College). 11. Silcock (Schools), 11. Williams (Regimental), IT. McPherson (Rovor), F. <l. Lock (treasurer) and D. D. Nl.orritt (secretary). .Mr d. B. Potter was excused from attendance.

The chairman reported that arrangements had been made for the purchase m the Moiler Memorial Cup. which will replace the present senior cup. Mr Slniin asked for an explanation of the position in regard to ladies' season tickets. It was pointed out that the ticket entitled the holders to a seat in the pavilion, but not to a reserved seat. Mr Merritt reported that the gala intended to be held last Saturday was not held and he explained to members the reason for the abandonment of the fixture. He also reported that the committee was working on the arrangement of a gala for the 28th April. It was intended to hold a gala on that date followed by a dance in the evening. . . Mr Shain expressed the opinion that if the grounds remained as hard as they were at present it would be inadvisable to open the season as early as the 21st April. Air Sileoek pointed out that in past years there were not enough Saturdays in the season, and the 21st and 28th April were late enough dates to commence the season.

It was decided that the Gala Committee be granted the 28th April for the gala. The committee was also given permission to hold the Boon Cup place kicking competition on that date. The Nelson City Council wrote granting the Union the use of Trafalgar Bark for the season on the same terms as last year.

The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a license for the Union to hold an art union.

* TEAMS NOMINATED

I'he 1 olio wing nominations of teams for the competition were received: Senior: Nelson, Finite, Old Roys, Waimea, Rival, Rover. Junior: Nelson, Old Boys, College. Regimental, Rival. Third Class: Nelson (2), l’irate, Old Boys, Waimea, College (2), Rival, Rover.

Fourth Class: Nelson, College (4), Rival. The nominations were accepted. It was decided that the lights he on at the Park for training on Tuesday and Thursday evening.', from 7.1 d to B.ld p.m.

Reference was made- by members to the number of representative jerseys lost last year. It was decided that the secretary report on the loss of any jerseys to ili t . meeting following their use liv representative teams.

New jerseys are to he purchased for the referees. The Rival and Nelson Clubs were granted the use of the Park next Saturday when senior, junior, third and fourth class games will he played. The proceeds from the matches will he in aid of the Union's Insurance Fund.

It was decided that two delegates be sent to the annual meeting of the Ix.X. Rugby Union. Messrs MePherson and Shain had meir votes recorded against the motion. Messrs Eyre and Lock were unpointed to represent the Nelson Union at the conference of delegates.

In answer to Mr Lock the President staled that it was intended to arrange a tour for the Nelson representatives this year and a grant would be asked for from the N.Z. Union for that purpose.

It. was pointed out that the matter of a schools' tournament would also he put before the N.Z. Union. Tbe College was granted the use of the Park for training on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in the hours stated, wliieli will not interfere with the schools’ training hours. A discussion took place on the wearing of numbers ,on_ the jerseys for club matches. Delegates were asked to refer the matter to the Clubs and report to the next meeting.
