THE BANKING SYSTEM
CAUSE or JUSTIFIABLE PRIDE Mr Rupert Beckett spoke with justifiable pride of tlie achievements oi tlie British hauling system in the years of unexampled economic depression at a meeting of the Westminster Bank, says “The Times.” Its foundations were unshaken. Ho did not claim for it that it was perfect, hut he did claim that the lfecord which that .system could show of continued safety and confidence throughout years of unprecedented j danger and difficulty was one that must make all fair-minded critics cautious in their approach to the advocacy of new and far-reaching experiments. The verdict of history, he thought, would be that Britain’s banking system bad been a bulwark in the days of the great crisis, and further that the system possessed the capacity for steady development and adjustment through the years to the new and changing needs i of the community.
