THE LEGEND OF THE FIRST TEA PLANT
In A.D. 510, an Indian Prince named Darina visited China oil a religious mission. Wishing to influence the people more strongly, he devoted nights and days to unceasing prayer, until at last, overcome by fatigue, he slept. _ When Prince Darnia awoke he \vas horrified at having yielded to his to sleep, and cut off his eyelids, which he threw on the ground, better to remember his vow of vigilance. The next day he returned to the spot, and found his eyelids had disappeared, and that where he had thrown them a strange kind of plant was growing. Darina picked some of the leaves, and tasted them. He suddenly felt reinvigorated, and restored in spirits, and, calling his followers, he drew their attention to the plant, which became known as the tea plant, and since then has become world known for its properties as “the cup that cheers !”
