WHEAT CONFERENCE
SEEKING AN AGREEMENT TO RAISE THE PRICE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) ROME, 6th April. The International Wheat Committee has opened seeking an agreement to raise the price by reducing exports or not selling abroad below a pre-determined price. Discussions were devoted to the progress of implementing the wheat agreement. Reporting on the crop situation, it was stated that the American carry-over would probably amount to 100,000,000 bushels. The Australian wheat area will probably be reduced. Argentina is not restricting cultivation. Canada is 15 per cent, lower. Russia is substituting wheat for rye. Germany has a slightly reduced area. Britain’s increase in area of . 6 per cent, sown would lead to a pro rata reduction in subsidy.
