CHRISTMAS CHEER
HAPPY GATHERING OF CHILDREN A very happy gathering of clrildren took place at the Majestic Theatre on Thursday afternoon, when over SQO were the guests of the Smith Family and the Rotary Club. The invitations to attend were confined to the children of the unemployed relief workers, to orphans and children of widows and lo the children of St Mary’s and St. Andrew’s Orphanages. The entertainment provided included a picture matinee while in addition ice-cream was supplied at the interval and a bag of fruit to each child on leaving. The Smith Family executive desires to express its gratitude to the following for assisting to provide ail enjoyable time: The Majestic Theatre Company for the use of the theatre and the manager .Mr Gray for his valuable assistance; the Paramount Film Co., for the programme supplied flee; the Suburban Bus Company and Mr Cotton for the 'conveyance of children from the orphanages without charge ; to the members of toe II and to Mesdames G. Page, W. Lock, R Watson and members of the Women Helpers’ League for assistance in many directions. Also to tile Rotary Club and the Unemployment Relief Committee for substantial donations to the cost of the Christmas cheer. The balance of tile fruit not used was sent to tile Hospital for distribution in the children’s ward.
