HOLIDAY FIXTURES
The chief outside holiday fixture so far as Nelson City is concerned is the Hawke Cup cricket match between Nelson and Taranaki, which commences cn Christmas Day. However, special holiday programmes have been arranged for all sports, and no doubt large numbers of people will visit favourite picnic resorts in the country or leave the city for several days in order to camp at the many suitable places provided m the district. „ . The combined friendly societies will hold their first annual gala at the Botanical Reserve on Boxing Day. The procession, headed by the bands,, comprising lodge tableaux, decorated cars and vehicles and fancy dress competitors, will leave the Cathedral Steps at 1U a.m. via Trafalgar street and Bridge street for the Reserve. There will be no charge for admission, a voluntary contribution being solicited to assist to defray expenses.
