SATURDAY’S FOOTBALL CHARITY CUP FINAL WON BY CELTIC ATHLETIC’S SUCCESS IN McCarthy cup match Ideal conditions for football were enjoyed at Victory Square on Saturday, and a large number of spectators gathered to witness the Charity Cup final and the McCarthy Cup challenge matches. The game for the Charity Cup was won by Celtic by a very narrow margin of 3 goals to 1. In fact Y.M.C.A. were unfortunate insofar as two goals for Celtic were scored by Y.M.C.A. players, who in their endeavours to clear diverted the ball past Kirby into the net. However Celtic were on top practically all through the game, as Y.M.C.A. were playing with a greatly weakened team owing to the fact that four of their regular players were not present. Celtic’s play in front of goal was nothing short of atrocious, as they had dozens of opportunities, but found the net on one occasion only. Mr J. Guy refereed. In the McCarthy Cup game Athletic Old Bovs, playing a weak Thistle team, had a lead of three goals to nil at half time. In the second spell Thistle went from had to worse, and Athletic were kept busy returning to the centre of the field for kick-offs. Athletic Old Boys scored seven goals in the second spell, and seemed able to score at will, and had no difficulty in registering the best win (so far as goals are concerned) for many seasons past. Mr J. Patterson refereed.

Y.M.C.A. will play Athletic Old Boys for the McCarthy Cup next Saturday.
