LOWEST RECORDS FOR BOTH DOMINION FIGURES FOR 1932 (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Figures published in the report on vital statistics for the Dominion for 1932, which was compiled by the Census and Statistics Ofiice, reveal that the birth rate for the year reached the lowest level on record with a figure of 17.09 per thousand of mean population. Oniy 24,884 live births were registered during 1932, this figure representing a decrease in number as compared with 1931 of 1738, the largest drop ever recorded in New Zealand with the exception of the war years. The New Zealand birth rate has shown an uninterrupted decline since 1920. . Marriages registered in New Zealand in 1932 totalled 9896, an increase of 79 as compared with 1931. A marriage rate of 6.80 per thousand of mean population is slightly higher than the 1931 figure. Tile number of deaths registered was 11,683 as againt 12,047 in the previous year. The death rate is down to the lowest level on record. The rate of infant mortality fell to 31.22 per thousand of live births, which was unprecedently low.
