STOEE V. NELSON Oil Saturday afternoon on the C links tlm local.'club played a Nelson Club team. Only fom-ball games were played. Stoke winning 4 games to 2. At the conclusion of play, Mr Clusnul, on behalf of the Stoke Club, expressed pleasure at the presence of the visitors, and remarked that the win was tin l lirst the Stoke Club had obtained. On behalf id' the Nelson Club Mr C. Milner congratulated the Stoke Club on its excellent and picturesque course. The Nelson players had thoroughly enjoyed the game. Mr Milner also referred with pleasure to the fact that the Rev. .1. 0. S. Bartlett, the founder of the Sloke (.‘iub, bad recovered from bis recent serious illness. Before concluding Mr Milner thanked the ladies of the. Stoke Club for providing afternoon tea. Cheers were then exchanged, three more being given for the ladies. The results were (Stoke players mentioned first): Thornton ami Black lost to Gridin and lloby, 5 and 4. Vcrcue and Chisnell beat Burrell and MeNivcn r> and 4. Langbein and Dee beat Lorimor and Spear 4 and :1. Grant and Bartlett beat Fell and Milner 4 and .'!. MeClnne and Thomason lost to Best and Hodgson I! and 2.
Douglas and Morris beat Baigeut and Gull 1 end •>.
