(United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Cop.vrigh t •
LONDON, 18th August. The complete absence of cheering crowds and only a few officials greeted Jimmy Woods, described as the world’s unluckiest airman, when he landed at Croydon. His arrival was a complete surprise, as he had not been reported since he left Karachi on the 23rd July. It is now stated that lie damaged the undercarriage while taking off from Bunder Abbas on the 24th July. He eventually left on 11th August. To-day he flew from Italy against headwinds and rain storms, and arrived in darkness. He was so fatigued that he refused interviews and immediately went to bed.
Woods told surprised Croydon officials : “My name is Woods. I have just flown from Australia. Y r ou have no idea what it is like to get the fresh air of Europe after being bashed about by monsoons, siroccos and all the vile winds of the Middle East. I left Bunder Abbas on Thursday, and have battled against every wind and form of nature since.”
