WORKERS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF NELSON CIRCLE The New Zealand Workers’ Educational Association, owing to curtailed finances, is not able to provide such a wide choice of lectures as heretofore, but is endeavouring to carry on as finance best permits. A meeting of the Nelson circle of the Association was held last evening in the Education Board room, with a. fair attendance of members, to consider whether, in the circumstances, it would be possible to continue the circle this year.
After all the facts had been placed before the meeting by the chairman, Air I*. (i. Gibbs, and as the prospects appeared brighter, it was resolved to carry on the. local W.E.A. group as usual this season. The course to be taken, “Personalities,” is a series of studies in biography, ilhiustrated by plays, records, plates and literary extracts. The course appears to be highly interesting, dealing as it does with such modern characters as Masefield and G.. B. Shaw, and men of all nations and times like Tolstoi, Michelangelo, Socrates, Schubert, pic. The first lecture read will be on PB. Shelley.
Air F. G. Gibbs was re-elected leader, and Air Al. R. Rest secretary and treasurer. Tbe treasurer’s report showed that receipts and expenditure just balanced out.
